As can be seen in the graph abo e, the manufacturing sector is follo ed b åfnancial ser ices (12%), transportation (8%), technolog (7%), retail (6%) and go ernment & defense (5%). Together, these top si targeted industries constitute almost 70% of the total targeted industries. Our anal sis corresponds ith other public reports addressing this topic. In Jul 2020, it as reported that the manufacturing sector paid 62% of the total ransom are pa ments in the course of 2019, amounting to US$6.9 million 20 . Furthermore, in September 2020, researchers found that the manufacturing sector took the hardest blow by ransomware attacks, accounting for a quarter of the total ransomware attacks they responded to 21 , and another research claimed ransomware attacks on the manufacturing sector increased se enfold bet een Januar 2020 and April 2020 22 .
