INTRODUCTION
This report presents the analysis of the effect of COVID-19 on the sale of credit cards online. The sale of credit
cards online is not new, nor is the attempt to stop it. Back in 2012, international law enforcement took down 36
credit cards (CC) shops, seizing data relating to 2.5 million cards.
Credit cards have been offered for sale online for almost a decade, the information published in the markets
include a partial or a full number of the card, the expiry date and the CVV. Often, the card holder’s information,
such as a full name and address, is also published in the shop. The combination of all these pieces of
information shared online, makes the card holder very vulnerable to financial theft.
The cards are usually sold for a few dollars each and the price varies depending on its balance. Hackers tend to
sell the cards in bulks, so that even if some cards get blocked, others will still work.
