Decision Intelligence in Practice Decision intelligence has gained much traction in recent years. Initially adopted by financial services and pharma companies, decision intelligence is now being adopted by government and law enforcement agencies. Research firm Gartner has identified decision intelligence as a Top 10 Technology Trend for government agencies in 2022 6 . Furthermore, the value of analytics and data-driven decision-making is clear to most customs organizations. In a 2021 WCO survey, 71% of respondents said the introduction of big data, data analytics, AI, and machine learning would improve customs audits and anomaly detection. 67% believe those tools will enable better risk management, profiling, fraud detection, and tax compliance 9 . Despite the value offered, that same survey showed that 60% of customs organizations were hesitant to adopt analytics and AI due to their lack of expertise internally, while 54% added that they were concerned about the costs involved 7 .
